Animated ads are one of the most popular forms of video marketing. They are usually much cheaper to produce than a traditional film shot on camera. They also allow for greater creative freedom.
Below we discuss the types of animated ads along with examples and prices of such productions.
Types:
Kinetic typography animated ads
At the center of these animated ads is the text. Text that appears, disappears, enlarges, reduces, changes color and shape. And all this to the rhythm of carefully selected music.
Very often, such animated ads are enriched with video or 3D animations.
Example of kinetic typography animation:
One of the most famous examples of animated ads of this type is Apple’s video about iPhone 7:

When to use kinetic typography animation:
This is a great form if you care about dynamics and have good video and animation to complement the whole.
It will work especially well for event animations to strongly stimulate the viewer’s emotions. It is also a good choice when the target group is young people who like such dynamics.
How much does an animation kinetic typography cost?
Such animated ad usually fall within the budget of 2-5 thousand EUR.
Of course, it depends on what is in the animation.
The Apple animated ad certainly cost several times more, because it required the recording of additional scenes with actors, iPhone, Airpods or iWatch and 3D animation showing the technology in the camera.
Whiteboard animation
These are the so-called drawing hand animations. Watching this animation, we feel as if we are standing behind the illustrator creating illustrations before our eyes.
Most often these animations are about products, services or strategies.
Example of whiteboard animation:
One of our best commercials of this type is the video for FORTE:

When to use whiteboard animation:
When we care about shortening the distance between us and the audience and when we want to present a very complex or even boring topic in a non-standard way.
For this reason, whiteboard animations are often used to show strategy, education on health and safety procedures or cybersecurity and presentation of consumer products.
We have had the opportunity to implement this type of animation for companies such as: IKEA, Carlsberg, ING and Ceneo.pl.
How much does whiteboard animation cost?
Such animated ad usually falls within the budget of 3-5 thousand EUR.
As in the case of kinetic typography animation, the more that happens in it, the more expensive it will be.
If the client wants the illustrator to recreate the “Battle of Grunwald” by Matejko, it will be more work than a simple schematic drawing.
Vector animation
These are called computer animations. They differ from whiteboards in that the elements are not drawn by hand, but show themselves on the screen.
The name “vector” comes from vectors, the type of files in which graphics are saved. This format allows scaling of graphics, so if you want an object to be 100X bigger, you can do it without losing quality.
This is how creating vectors looks like. As you can see it is different from drawing.
Example of vector animation:
The animation promoting Plasmacluster technology from SHARP is one of our best animations of this type:

When to use vector animations:
This is usually a good move if you want serious style and dynamics. For this reason, vector animations are usually used to showcase products in the financial, IT and consulting industries.
Another advantage is that you can agree with the studio for the rights to use the graphics used in animation. Then the icons or characters can be on the company’s landing page or presentation.
We had the opportunity to implement this type of animation for companies such as SHARP, Revolut and Winaco.
How much does a vector animation cost?
Such animated ad usually fit into the budget of 3-6 thousand EUR.
Why is it more than a whiteboard animation? Working on a vector usually takes more time than working on a drawing.
In addition, the process of animation is time-consuming – each movement must be planned. If a character is eating a burger, for example, we have to plan the movement of the elbow, hands and teeth. This takes time… and time is money.
Animated ads in 3D
Such animations add another dimension. Close-ups, rotations, and additional details. We can create anything we dream of. This is how movies like Shrek, Where’s Nemo or WALL-E were created.
Example of 3D animation:

When to use 3D animation:
Anywhere where it is important to show three dimensions and draw the viewer into a new world.
Often such animations are used by medical, industrial and gaming industries. In the first two cases, because you can precisely show the structure of a chemical substance or a machine. In the case of gaming, the strength of 3D animation is the ease with which it draws the viewer into a new world.
How much does 3D animation cost?
In this area the sky is the limit. In the best studios, this implementation can cost up to 250 EUR per… second. But simpler advertising animations can be realized for a cost of 3-11 thousand EUR.
